This month’s recipe is Golden Milk.
This aromatic, warm, and tasty beverage pairs well with a small cup of coffee and bowl of oatmeal or cereal for a wholesome and filling breakfast in the morning. Additionally, try as a cozy night cap with good book in hand for the evening.
The spices used in this recipe truly complement one another to create a soothing, yet flavorful drink. The “golden” in golden milk refers to the use of the turmeric, a plant in the ginger family, as when used as a spice in powder form is of a yellow/orange hue. The active phytochemical in turmeric is curcumin, which when paired with black pepper as a catalyst, is said to contain properties that are anti-inflammatory in the body. Curcumin is fat-soluble, meaning its absorption in the body depends on the fat content of the items with which its ingested. Aim for a nut-based milk in this recipe as nuts alone contain a high percentage of fat.
Because turmeric and black pepper can present as a strong duo of flavors, the sweetness in the plant-based milk offers a gentle balance when combined as directed below. The amounts of each ingredient listed below are mere guidelines. Feel free to experiment and alter this recipe to suit your individual preferences for sweet or bitter.
